The 2003
Profile of Health and Human Services in Ventura County presents
a statistical picture of the socio-economic conditions
for the residents of Ventura County.
With growing numbers of
urgent and critical issues facing our community such
as domestic violence, teen pregnancy, AIDS, gang violence,
homelessness - this profile provides information to
assist us in investing our limited resources more effectively.
To solve problems, the first step is knowing and understanding
what the problems are and to what extent they are being
addressed.
Studies of this type are often expensive and out-dated
the moment they are published. A great deal of effort
has gone into the design of this 2003 Profile to limit
its costs, and more importantly, to be a living document
and the start of an on-going effort to make current
quantitative data available to assist the community
in its problem solving efforts. The methodologies used
in this study were selected because of their cost effectiveness
and their capacity to be updated on a regular basis
to eventually detail the comparable effectiveness of
service interventions over the years and to forecast
important social trends and the need for specific future
services.
It is anticipated that the information from this study
and its future updates will assist public and private
organizations with long-range planning and goal-setting,
provide information to assist organizations with resource
allocations, reinforce and validate agency grant requests
and provide some impetus for the initiation or enhancement
of collaborative problem-solving efforts throughout
the county.
We encourage you to be a partner in the process by
using the information in the 2003 Profile and by participating
in future years in the ongoing development of a database
of information that will help all of us be more effective
in solving our community's problems.
